How do processing fees, booking fees, and other checkout charges work?

Processing fees are the card/ACH cost from the payment processor; booking fees are Mallard Bay's checkout/service fee; taxes and add-ons are whatever you've configured on the listing or quote. All three show up in the customer's total at checkout and in your payment records.

Here’s the basic breakdown:

  • Processing fees are the card/ACH payment costs charged by the payment processor. These are tied to the payment method and transaction.
  • Booking fees are checkout/service fees added through Mallard Bay based on your account/setup and the booking flow.
  • Other checkout charges can include items like taxes, add-ons, required fees, or custom charges you’ve configured for the listing or quote.

At checkout, the customer sees the total due based on the trip price, required charges, optional add-ons, applicable taxes/fees, and payment-related fees. In your dashboard, payments and booking records help you track what was charged, paid, and still outstanding.

If you’re trying to verify this for a specific booking or listing, tell me which one and I can look it up.
